We Eat Bugs

Home

poster of 4 birds eating bugs

Many different kinds of birds eat insects, even sparrows when it’s time to feed chicks.

  1. Cliff Swallow Nest: This area, called Charleston Slough, includes many different wetland habitats used by a great variety of birds. Cliff Swallows migrate to buildings like this all over North America to build these mud nests, also using bridges and highway overpasses, greatly increasing their range and population.
  2. Western Bluebird: Lake Vasona County Park is home not only to Western Bluebirds but is a nesting location for Great Blue Herons.
  3. Burrowing Owl: On the way to the Environmental Education Center in Alviso, you might see the Burrowing Owls that nest in these fields and even perch in plain sight on "The Magic Fence."
  4. Dark Eyed Junco: This common sparrow can be seen throughout Rancho San Antonio County Park and Open Space Preserve. Or, in your backyard.
